Our Journey of Faith
A legacy of worship, service, and purpose in Scotch Plains since 1909.

From humble beginnings in a growing community to becoming a vibrant center of faith and outreach, St. John’s Baptist Church has stood as a beacon of hope and love in Scotch Plains for over a century.

Beginnings: a dream takes root
In 1909, a group of faithful believers gathered with a shared vision: to build a church that would bring people closer to God, nurture discipleship, and serve those around them in love. This dream found a home at 2387 Morse Avenue, a place that would become a spiritual foundation for generations to come.

Growing deeper, reaching wider
As years passed, the church expanded not only in membership, but in ministry. Children’s programs, youth fellowships, women’s and men’s ministries, outreach efforts: each chapter strengthened our capacity to reflect the heart of Christ. Every event, worship service, and act of kindness added a new thread to our story.

Guided by faithful leaders
Through the decades, St. John’s has been blessed by pastoral leadership rooted in vision, integrity, and love. Leaders have stirred us toward deeper prayer, bolder service, and more intentional faith. And today, we carry forward that legacy with renewed purpose and passion.

Community and Kingdom impact
Worship has always been just the beginning. At St. John’s, we believe faith must move outward, into our neighborhood, our town, and beyond. Whether through hands-on service, advocacy, or sharing the Good News, our commitment has been to walk with love, act with compassion, and serve with purpose.

Looking ahead: faithful into the future
Over one hundred years later, our church remains rooted, and yet still growing. The same foundational values that birthed us continue to guide us: prayer, discipleship, service. We are a community of women and men, young and mature, committed to walking deliberately with divine purpose. The next chapter is ours to write, together.
